It is hard to imagine how the world was without Facebook. Facebook remains the most popular social media platform carrying users from all walks of life; from high school kids to CEOs of major corporations. Its popularity, despite reports that it is waning makes a fertile ground for millions of marketers to make sale of their goods and services. However, to keep the millions glued to their accounts, Facebook has wistfully let app developers to have both free and not-free applications available for Facebook users.
It was in June 2012 that Facebook launched its App Centre. This centre comes with hundreds of free applications which at some point might be charged. This makes Facebook apps an important attraction to users across the globe.
Most popular apps are either those with gaming capabilities or those that let users use their platforms to generate money either through marketing. Facebook has millions of applications already on their platform and this has helped them remain popular with tones of hours being wasted unwillingly by the users.
Facebook apps utilise several inbuilt mechanisms that enable them to be known by many. For example, there are always notifications showing who among your Facebook friends has recently used an application, or who among your friends is earning more marks by playing using an app. Scrabble, Cityville and Farmville are some common applications that have huge following.
Until June 2011, Farmville was the most popular app on Facebook. The game involves continuous development of a farm, winning awards and reinvesting them in the farm. Before a user notices, his farm expands with more animals and plants to farm. Failure to tend the farm makes plants wilt. However, this application was overtaken by other applications including its urban upstart sister Cityville from Zynga the developers of Farmville. It is estimated that each given day, there are over 60 million users frequenting both Farmville and Cityville.
Zynga remains the top developer of Facebook apps. However, they trail a combined of other app manufacturers especially news and events apps. When twitter app was released, many could not understand how these seemingly similar platforms would link up together. However, many have been able to post on their twitter pages by simply updating the status on Facebook. This minimises the need to keep on moving from one social network to another. The twitter app has been a hit with millions already subscribed.
News apps are also popular but an app whose popularity is on the rise is the Socialcam, an application that lets users upload and share videos on Facebook. Though this app is available in iPhone and Android phones, its inception on Facebook has been the real revolution. This has even generated rumours of Autodesk seeking to purchase the app from its developers.
Facebook apps might be popular, but they have a not so appealing aspect; their ability to ‘broadcast’ every step you make. For example, those who have subscribed to Socialcam are constantly complaining of notifications posted on their timelines. Some of the videos they watch might be ‘controversial’ to be put on their timelines. Apps also request for access to private information and fully access to the users profile which sometimes raises issue of security. This article is brought by Logo Quiz Answers and Logo Quiz.
